Our Founding Beliefs
We’ve noticed teens are open to discovering who they are and what they care about. Teens are energized, provocative, curious and thoughtful. Teens are also navigating the tumultuous waters that flow between childhood and adulthood. Valo offers a space where young people feel a sense of belonging as they explore what it means to grow up.
With simple shifts—from getting curious and asking questions, to owning our imperfections, to taking risks and messing up—we notice profound changes in our teens, our relationships and in ourselves.
As Valo has grown, we’ve realized that the lessons we’ve learned from retreats are universal. We believe that we all have the capacity to expand our hearts and minds and make meaningful contributions to the world. Think of a three-legged stool that finds its balance through equal and well-built support. We are most steady with a mix of creating, centering in ourselves, and real connection with others. Combine all three, with regularity, and we enrich our relationships with ourselves, our families, and our communities.
