day four: centering - a good book

Like many, we’ve found ourselves with a little extra time on our hands. With events canceled and happenings postponed, the evenings feel a little longer and the mornings less full. (And this isn't a bad thing!)

As we get used to the rhythms of our “new normal,” bookcases beckon us. A few of our old favorites catch our eye, and those on our “to read” list ask to have their pages turned.

Today, we invite you to join us and sit down to enjoy a good book.

We’re inspired to set the stage: tuck our phones away, brew a cuppa, light a candle (if you feel like it!), sit in a cozy spot, and open up. We wonder where you'll end up...

Even if it’s just 15 minutes, time spent reading leaves us feeling centered and lifted (and—who knows—maybe this book will become one of your new favorites!).

With our libraries closed to in-person lending, we want to share a few virtual resources for you to peruse:

  • Overdrive allows you to read ebooks for free using your local library card.

  • Open Library offers free ebooks, no card needed!

  • LibriVox offers free public domain audiobooks, read by volunteers from around the world.

Search for a cover that sparks your attention and come along!

If you come along and post a photo and tag @valomaine on Instagram or Facebook, we'll enter you in a raffle to win a prize--like a gift card from our friends at Rosemont Market & Bakery or a year-long subscription from the good folks at Taproot Magazine.

Ready to dive in?

Each evening of valo at home, we'll be sharing an email with the next day's spark of valo inspiration. Simply click here to share your email, and we'll make sure you're looped in! You can also forward this post to a friend and invite them to come along. The more the merrier.
