valo at home day ten: center - hit the hay

How do you feel after waking up from a good night’s sleep? Energized and ready to conquer the world (or at least dive whole-heartedly into whatever the day might bring)?

It’s not just you. Research shows that sleep is highly linked to our overall happiness. A good night's sleep reduces stress levels and can leave us feeling alert and centered. Doesn't that sound nice?

Today, we invite you to catch some shut-eye. Whether that’s grabbing a power nap in the afternoon, or soaking up a full eight hours this evening.

Having trouble catching some Zzzs? Here are some ideas...

  • Value your rest! Shifting your mindset about the importance of sleep (right up there with exercise and eating well) can help you prioritize it.

  • Practice a digital sunset. Turn off the news, and tuck technology away, an hour or so before bed. Looking to unwind? Break out your favorite book instead.

  • Consistency—go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.

  • Eat and exercise (and consume any caffeine) early in the day.

  • Make a plan for the day ahead. Looking to jump into a workout? Gather your clothes the night before. Hoping to journal? Lay everything out on your bedside table.

  • Meditate. Insight Timer is a free app with meditations geared towards unwinding before bed. Why not give it a try?

After you awake, check-in with yourself. How do you feel? (Hopefully refreshed!) Let us know using @valomaine. We’re curious!

If you come along and post a photo and tag @valomaine on Instagram or Facebook, we'll enter you in a raffle to win a prize--like a gift card from our friends at Rosemont Market & Bakery or a year-long subscription from the good folks at Taproot Magazine.
